Gia Lai hosts symbolic handover ceremony for US government - funded disaster relief
On the morning of December 23, 2025, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province, in coordination with the Vietnam Disaster and Dike Management Authority (under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, and Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in Viet Nam, held a symbolic handover ceremony for disaster relief funded by the US government to support people affected by natural disasters in Viet Nam.

The ceremony were attended by Ms. Melissa Anne Brown - US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Nguyen Van Tien - Deputy Director of the Vietnam Disaster and Dike Management Authority (VDDMA), and Ms. Dao Thi Hong - Head Representative of CRS in Viet Nam; and, representing Gia Lai province, Mr. Duong Mah Tiep - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee (PPC) and representatives from relevant departments, agencies, and localities.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, Duong Mah Tiep, provided information on the province's efforts to mitigate the damage caused by the recent natural disaster. On behalf of the government and people of Gia Lai province, he thanked the US Government and affirmed Gia Lai's commitment to using the aid appropriately, transparently, and effectively; contributing to helping the affected people stabilize their lives as soon as possible.
Ms. Melissa Anne Brown, the U.S. Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, stated that the aid showed the United States' long-standing commitment to supporting Viet Nam in responding to natural disasters, strengthening its resilience to climate change, and ensuring the well-being of vulnerable communities, thereby contributing to the development of friendship, trust, and cooperation between the United States and Viet Nam.

At the ceremony, the U.S. Consul General presented a symbolic check for $1.25 million in aid to the leader of VDDMA, and a symbolic check for VND 4.27 billion in aid to the leader of Gia Lai PPC.
This aid was allocated to the two communes of Tuy Phuoc Bac and Tuy Phuoc Dong, with specific support levels of VND 2.6 million per household for those in need of sanitation and clean water, and VND 5.2 million per household for those needing house repairs and reinforcement.
After the ceremony, the delegation went to Tuy Phuoc Dong commune to participate in activities introducing safe houses and to visit households severely affected by Typhoon No. 13 (Kalmaegi).
