Conference on Introduction of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement

On the morning of October 14th, 2020, the Department of Industry and Trade of Binh Dinh province (DOIT) in collaboration with the branch of Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Da Nang city (VCCI) and Vietnam e-Commerce and Digital Economy Agency governed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade held the Conference on introduction of the European Union (EU) - Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) at Hai Au hotel, Quy Nhon City.
The Conference received the participation of the leaders and civil servants from the state management agencies at the district and provincial levels and the representatives of the import and export enterprises in Binh Dinh province.
Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Ms. Tran Anh Tuyet, Vice Director of DOIT said that EVFTA came into effect on August 01st, 2020 and gave Vietnam in general and Binh Dinh province in particular new opportunities to get access to the EU market. It is a new generation trade agreement which brings both opportunities and challenges. To take advantage of the opportunities from this market, the managers and the enterprises must have full understanding of the agreement for both competitiveness and development. Therefore, the statement management agencies need to actively provide support and information for the enterprises and the enterprises themselves must take full advantage of the opportunities brought by EVFTA.
The representative of VCCI introduced the basic points of EVFTA such as: tariff elimination schedule, regulations on the technical barriers to trade, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, ways of getting access to the EU market, etc. At the conference, Vietnam e-Commerce and Digital Economy Agency of the Ministry of Industry and Trade also provided the measures, ways of getting access to the EU market online.

Alibaba Representative’s introduction about online buying and selling
According to the information provided, there are more than 350 import and export enterprises in Binh Dinh province, in which 150 enterprises are exporting goods to the EU market. In 9 months of 2020, the import and export turnover of the whole province is estimated at more than USD799 million, increasing by 18.8% compared to the same period last year, in which the import and export turnover to the EU market is estimated at nearly USD 133 million, accounting for 16.6% of the total import and export turnover. The products exported to the EU market are the goods of the group opened by the EU such as textiles, leather shoes, wooden products, granite, rice, seafood, etc.
